Background: Inadequate use of these techniques probably increases the risks of radiography. This study has been accomplished in 2016 to determine medical students and residents of Birjand University of medical science awareness levels of principles of protection in radiologic imaging.
Methods: In this descriptive research, all medical students, including externs, interns, radiology residents and residents of the other fields at Birjand University of medical science in 2016 were targeted. Data was collected with a questionnaire made by the researcher, containing 20 questions in three fields: basic principles of protection in radiology imaging, justification in radiology imaging and applied aspects of protection in radiologic imaging. Justifiability and stability of this questionnaire have been approved. Data is analyzed by SPSS16 program and Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whithney U tests.
Results: 170 people have been targeted in this study, including 88 (51.8%) externs, 59 (34.7%) interns, 7 (4.1%) radiology residents and 16 (9.4%) residents of the other fields. The average score of awareness had no significant difference between male and female students (p<0.05). The result of Mann-Whithney U test represents that the total score and the average score for the basic principles and applied aspects for externals compared to interns and residents was too low (p<0.05).
Conclusions: As there is an important role for Radiologists and low awareness of radiography basics in radiology residents, we suggest to put more emphasize on teaching and perform more periodic exams in order to increase the level of knowledge in students.

Background: Social accountability in the schools of medicine is very important. It is an essence to recognize the methods and models used and implemented in the world in order to make use of the results and experiences. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to review some models of social accountability in the world. Methods: The key words, including social accountability, faculty of medicine, and curriculum were searched in the data banks, Elsevier, PubMed, Elsevier, Eric, Google scholar ProQuest and also the Iranian data banks, including Magiran, and SID. Then, the extracted data were categorized. In total, 80 articles were found and after analysis of the abstracts only, 30 articles in relation with the topic were selected. Finally, only 10 articles were chosen that were about social accountability models. Results: Five models of social accountability are used in the faculties of medicine and medical curriculum in the world, including: CPU model, The NET model, AIDER model, ASPIRE model, and CARE model. These models adapt functional approaches in order to upgrade the ability of social accountability among learners and providers of health services. Conclusions: In fact, social accountability should be established as a culture among students and teachers. Introducing the current approaches in the world and their results, could be influential in the universities of Iran in order to establish the requirements and provide changes in educational curriculum. Among the five models, CARE model is recommended to be implemented and assessed in the schools of medicine of Iran, it should be noted that this model could be more consistent with the educational system of Iran.

Background: Communication is the key role in the nursing profession. Nurse-patient communication is highly important especially when the patient is a child. Studies indicate inappropriate contact with children in the pediatric wards. This study investigated effect of training on communication skills of nurse with child through small group discussion.
Methods: This study is a clinical trial with pre-test and post-test, which was done on 60, nurses in Dr. Sheikh hospital in Mashhad. Nurses were randomly assigned into either intervention or control groups.Nurses' communication skills were measured using the tools of Calgary Cambridge communication skills assessment before and after the intervention. During one-day workshops, 6-hour training for communication skills with children was provided to nurses as small group discussion.
Results: The results showed there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of mean score of nurses' verbal and nonverbal communication skills before the intervention (verbal: p = 0.495, nonverbal: p = 0.307). However, after the intervention, the mean score of nurses in verbal and nonverbal communication skills in the case group was statistically significant and higher than those in the control group (p<0.001).
Conclusions: Given weakness in the relationship between nurse and child at the bedside and since nurses do not receive essential instructions on specific skills related to children communication, it seems necessary to investigate the effect of implementing various educational practices on the nurses' communication skills.
